Our Purpose

Why the Fellowship

Across the MENA region, civic spaces face increasing pressure, and meaningful citizen participation is often constrained by outdated systems and limited access to transparent, technology-driven engagement tools. While many civic innovators and technologists are eager to tackle these challenges, they often lack the structured support and resources needed to transform their ideas into impactful solutions.

Code for MENA bridges this gap. Our mission is to empower a new generation of civic tech leaders by providing an inclusive, collaborative platform to co-create practical solutions that expand civic spaces, strengthen public participation, and advance transparency and accountability. Through a virtual hackathon experience, participants receive tailored training, mentorship, and access to funding opportunities, along with post-event support to help scale their solutions and drive lasting impact throughout the region.

How it Works

Over a three-month journey, selected fellows gain intensive training, mentorship from regional experts, and exposure to a network of partners. The program culminates in a regional virtual Hackathon where finalists pitch their prototypes and the winning teams receive seed funding and continued support to scale their impact.

  • Step 1: Apply with a civic issue and your proposed idea.
  • Step 2: Join our virtual bootcamps and one-on-one mentorship sessions.
  • Step 3: Prototype and refine your solution during the Hackathon.
  • Step 4: Pitch to an expert jury to win funding and incubation support.
